What is Chautauqua Institution?
This gated community is where several hundred visitors come each and every summer to spend their vacations. Some come for weeks at a time, some spend the entire summer and other tourists just come for a short time such as a day trip or a special event going on like a concert, symphony, theater or play.A summer in the Institution consists of a nine week period of time with a schedule of things to do for every age group. Several tourists and locals sign up for the highly anticipated courses offered in the summer at the Institution. Classes are offered in many areas from art to culinary to exercise to photography and there are so many more. An entire schedule fills each week of the summer and the classes are taught by instructors from all over the world. Chautauqua Lake provides many opportunities for vacationers such as
fishing,
boating,
kayacking, swimming and sailing. A Boys and Girls club offered for youth of all age groups is very popular and teaches many activities to kids during the summer months.
Each summer, several famous people perform at the outdoor amphitheater within the gates of the Institution.

The Chautauqua streets are lined with old buildings, large trees and lovely landscape. Very few cars are allowed through the main gate, so the roads are safe and quiet and the setting is a very peaceful one.
