Spend a day of your vacation traveling around the lakes and visit the 21 Lake Erie wineries that make up the 40 mile stretch referred to as the Chautauqua/Lake Erie Wine Trail. People have been making wine here for as long as I can remember. My great grandfather stored it in barrels in his basement but times have changed since then. You will be able to see, and better yet, taste, the newest as well as some of the oldest wines.
As you drive, you will see the vineyards that surround the area especially all along the lake . Someone visiting the area once asked me, "what are all those rows of plants"? Some have never seen the miles and miles of vineyards that produce all that wine.
The fruitful grapes also make delicious juice and jelly.
Your visit to the wineries will include tours, information and taste testing. Wine is available for purchase and after tasting the different kinds of wine available you will be sure to find one or more of them to be irresistible. The
Lake Erie Wineries along the Lake Erie/Chautauqua Wine Trail
are a popular way to spend the day and are stocked with several varieties of wine for testing.
Chautauqua County, NY and Erie, PA being home to the oldest and largest
Concord Grape Growing Region
in the world, will make your visit one that you will surely remember.
