Fishing For Muskellunge and Other Freshwater Fish on Chautauqua Lake
Many kind of fish swim in
Chautauqua Lake
but the Muskellunge fish is probably the most popular. Clean, fresh water, natural springs and artisan wells make Chautauqua Lake a perfect place for fishing. Walleye and Calico are also plentiful as is Small and Large Mouth Bass. Fishermen can fish throughout the year on Chautauqua Lake and catch other panfish such as yellow and white perch too. Pumkinseed, crappie, bluegill and bullhead are also plentiful. With Chautauqua Lake being an average of 25 feet deep in the North basin and an average of 11 feet deep in the South basin, it makes it a prime location for catching freshwater fish and a popular lake for the fishermen.

Where are the Best Spots???
Well, I'm not sure of the best spots but there are some good locations. One is in front of the Bell Tower at and another in front of Prendergast Point at the northern end of the lake.
Chautauqua Creek also makes a nice spot for fishing. Many fisherman enjoy the fishing in the 8 mile long gorge that stretches from Mayville to Lake Erie.
The Largest Fish Ever Caught In Chautauqua Lake?
The largest fish on record ever caught in Chautauqua Lake was in 1872. It was 6 feet long with a bill on its nose that was almost a foot long and weighed in at 120 pounds. That must of been some fishing pole.

Two popular spots are the Barcelona Harbor and the Dunkirk Harbor. Both of these locations offer excellent access to some of the best fishing around. Lake Erie waters produce excellent Smallmouth.
